An easy way to make life easier for 2,000,000 people
Here’s a thought. 5% of the population suffer from severe visual stress – to the extent that their reading is seriously affected. So – that would be about 2,000,000 people, excluding young children. If the government paid for all those people to have a pack of reading rulers, it would cost a mere £20,000,000.(Once they’d found their colour they could buy their own.) However, those 2 million people would then be earning, say, another £10,000 a year each, because they could now read properly. That would be an additional £4 bn a year gross income. Tax on that at 20% would be £800,000,000 altogether in the treasury. So: spend £20 million, generate £800 million. Come on Gordon, what are you waiting for!!?
